What I Want

05 October 2015

What do you need to prepare for the chilly weather in coming months? Here are 7 staples that will give you a seamless transition from Summer into the perfect Fall wardrobe.

1. The Turtle Neck
This is the easiest and chicest top for this fall. Pair it with high-waisted black jeans and booties for a casual chic night now, or dress it up with a cute mini skirt.  This piece is the essential "I don't want to try right now but I still want to look cute" staple, it immediately ups your game on any outfit. I'm particularly partial to the three-quarter-sleeve turtle necks because I feel like they are more versatile and a little less intense but long sleeve is good to have especially if you live in a more extreme climate (aka not San Francisco).

2. The Suede Mini Skirt
The 70's vibe that has taken over fashion this spring/summer is finding it's way into fall.  Earthy tones and textured fabrics are ubiquitous this upcoming season.  The Suede Mini Skirt is no exception, with a sophisticated take on the old school silhouette you'll be able to rock this all fall.

3. Warehouse Suede Mini (from ASOS)

3. The Bootie
The IT bootie this fall is definitely this pointed toe, medium heeled style. I have the first choice below from Zara and I love them because they're comfortable and I can wear them both jeans and skirts which makes them the ultimate staple for fall.  I am obsessive about my black booties and end up wearing them everyday in fall/winter so usually I'll have a cheap pair and an expensive pair that I wear for different occasions.  See my selections below:

4. The Heeled Knee High Boot
This is a bold style that most people will shy away from initially because "I'll never wear those boots." Oh but that's where you're wrong.  I just got the third pair of boots below from Zara and I love them so much.  They make your legs look longer and are perfect to pair with short dresses and minis for a chili fall night. I would recommend trying any knee high style on in a store before you buy because sometimes they can be a little tight around the calf so you want to make sure that you get the right size for you.  I particularly like the first selection below from ASOS but sadly I think I may have reached my max for knee high suede boots this fall.

2. Sam Edelman Boots (from Nordstrom)

5. The Simple Dress
YES. This dress was sent from heaven to make all of our lives easier in the morning.  The simplicity of this style screams effortlessly chic.  Not only that, you can quite literally pair this with anything; think leather jacket with heels or booties for a night out, or boots and a sweater for work. Reformation is my go-to brand for everything so the first dress below is my absolute favorite (also has the turtleneck!). Aritzia has great simplistic and comfortable dresses as well that are a little more wallet friendly.

3. Sparkle and Fade Dress (from Urban Outfitters)

6. The Bootcut Flare
Uhg, I know what you're thinking..Is this style from my middle school days seriously coming back to haunt me? The answer is yes.  BUT it's not all bad, the high-waisted dark tones give a chicer silhouette that is less S Club 7 and more 1970's New York Chic. At least that's what I'm telling myself.  You can literally only wear these with heels unless you're 5' 11'' and your Gigi or Kendall. They really do look perfect when paired with a white blouse and high heeled booties. Frame is obviously the best in this category.

7. The Cape/Poncho
Again a staple piece that was created to make my life easier.  I am loving ponchos and capes for Fall for two reasons, 1. because it's the perfect weight for the weather in SF and 2. because it immediately completes any outfit. Just throw it over a dress or jeans and booties and you're done. Thank you poncho, although I will probably hate you next year and sell you to buffalo exchange you are serving me well right now.
